I apologize right off the bat. Search Engine Optimization is such a huge subject that it can not be covered in one article or even one book.
To define it in simple terms, there is on-page and off-page optimization.
On-page is the physical things you can do, to your own pages code, to make it SEO friendly.
Off-page optimization is described as strategies that are done off the pages of a website to maximize its performance in the search engines for target keywords related to the page content. This primarily includes getting other sites to link to your site.
Now since we are blogging here, I wanted to discuss Blog SEO tactics and specifically what great (free)
resources are out there to help.
first thing you need to define for yourself is a collection of keywords that you want to optimize your blog for. This list will grow over time but if you can decide on a list of 20 it will get us started.
For FollowmyStartups.com we started with this list.
FollowmyStartups.com keywords

business startups

What I will focus on today is some of the best on-page activities you can do as well as the best SEO plugins for your blog.
I will reference information found in Blog with Success, as I’m a follower of the system and have used their on-page recommendations list for all my blog setups. First lets optimize our blog by setting the title
and taglines.
Let’s log into our blog admin and click on
Settings –> General
Your Blog title should be just a few words and include the main keyword your site will target. In our case, we used “Follow My Startups”.
For a tagline, we want it catchy, we want it to use our main keyword and also a longer tail keyword from our list. In our case, we used “Follow Me As I Start New Online Businesses”. Next lets install some plugins for our blog. If you are not familiar with how to install plugins to your blog, please see our resource list below.
