Selling Web Sites On eBay
By Kevin Needham
Seems simple right. Got an idea for a website? Make the site and sell it.
Truth is, it is not that dificult and if you follow these simple guidelines, along with my
“Power Twist” which I describe below, you can be on your way to a full time income.
Here is an example to show you that websites sell, and in particular, they sell on ebay.
I logged into my ebay account, and did an advanced search for website for sale. Then I
viewed just the completed listings.

As you can see, websites on ebay sell.
The first thing that came to my mind however was..
These sites look pretty professional, some use back end databases and have taken
a while to create, yet they have not sold for much money.
In fact, the average website sale on ebay seems to be around $10-$50 bucks
WOOOO, were is the business model here?
Great question..and the answer is… in the hosting. Most of these websites are sold
for a price much less than what it costs to make them. The owners make and sell the
sites at a loss, however they have the site hosted and they sell the hosting services
ALONG with the website.
The real business here is website hosting.
OK, lets prepare the checklist you need to run and operate a successful business
selling websites.
1. Watch Google Trends and subscribe to “A Niche A Day Newsletter” to know
what market niche is hot and active at the time. Also watch eBay itself to see
what type of sites are selling.
2. Buy a domain name that has your niche keyword in it.
3. Set up the domain name on a reseller hosting account from HostGator. You will be
able to set up over 250 domains on a $24.95 a month account.
4. Set up a blog on the site. Install the correct SEO plugins, choose a theme and make
a post
5. Study eBay listings for websites for sale, and develop your own listing to sell your
complete website. Start an auction at $0.99 with no reserve. Mention hosting and
the cost within your listing
6. When site sells, arrange hosting payment. This is the “Power Twist”
7. Rinse and repeat.
Just to recap: You will spent $9.19 on a domain name at GoDaddy.com, your ebay
listing is free. Hosting is costing about 10 cents per month, you resell it from $5.99
to $25.99. You break even on the deal by month 2 payment. You break even instantly
if your site sells for more then $10.00
If you can manage over the year to sell 100-1000 domains, you have created a nice
little income that most likely will allow you to pursue this business full time.
To your success
